New automated people mover's first train cars

The Automated People Mover is not just a new option for traveling to LAX — it's a future-proof investment in the future of travel to one of the busiest airports on the planet" Mayor Eric Garcetti announced in a press release. "Travelers, airport employees, and tourists alike have endured decades of gridlock and transit option deprivation in and around LAX". This project is the centerpiece of the larger picture to reduce traffic congestion, improve mobility, and modernize the entire airport experience.

Now, as we open the door to the first of hundreds of vehicles that will eventually carry thousands of travelers every day, connecting them seamlessly to newly renovated terminals, renovated parking garages, Metro rail lines, and the new consolidated rental car facility, we are witnessing a major milestone in the revitalization of LAX. It is a quantum advance in creating a world-class transportation complex more accessible, efficient, and sustainable for generations.".

(Los Angeles) Today, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti joined city, federal and airport officials to debut a critical component of the future of LAX with the unveiling of the first Automated People Mover (APM) train car. LAX will be the first U.S. airport to feature the INNOVIA 300 APM vehicles, which showcase the latest technology to help revolutionize how travelers get to and from the fifth-busiest airport in the world. The APM system will reduce vehicle congestion and traffic in and around LAX when it opens, while providing the long-awaited connection to regional transportation, including Metro light rail.
